Quarterly Meeting

This post is a week late but some other items took precedence. I wanted to get some thoughts on our quarterly staff meeting from last week in Seymour. There were many good things said by our speaker. What stuck out to you the most? Was there anything that you learned? Any other comments would greatly be appreciated. There was a lot to digest and it would be good to have some dialogue about it. Thanks!

8.8.08 Meeting Minutes

Here are the topics discussed in our meeting this morning for the Main Branch.

  • Please be sure to count as many questions as you can during the day. Come up with your system for keeping track of the questions or count them on the counters on the desk. These are very important to our stats. As Betty said, we need to change the way we think about the reason behind keeping up with these stats.
  • Remember to place reserves right away. When you get a call or someone comes to the front desk to reserve material put the reserve on then. We have had a couple of instances where this did not take place and patrons were not happy when there reserve never came in.
  • The phone needs to be answered as soon as possible. Try to not let it ring more than three times.
  • Help watch desk at all times even when out in stacks and on reference desk.
  • Check plugs for security system every night before closing and throughout day to be sure they are plugged in.
  • On the holdings shelf each person will be given a file holder, that needs to be checked everyday, with information they or other people have put in it.
  • The top shelf of the wire basket cart in my office is for anything that needs Liz’s attention and the bottom shelf is for item that need to be deleted, changed or fixed. Please be sure to notation on the material as to what needs to be done.

7.18.08 Meeting Minutes

Here are the items discussed in the main branch meeting for 7.18.08.

  • Please be sure and get on the blog and read the article about TN libraries. As discouraging as it may be to hear we are almost last on many of the lists, we can be proud of what we do here everyday even with the little that is provided to us.
  • Our staff is low at the moment, especially in lieu of Daniel leaving, but interviews are taking place today and we hope to have a new member very soon. We can still do our job, and do it well, with the great staff we have right now.
  • The shelves are in a complete disarray at the moment. Even though we are very busy and short-handed right now we need to do our best to keep the place looking neat. If you see items out of place or disheveled, please take the time to fix them. The shelves also need to be shelf read but I believe much of this will take care of itself once we do the inventory.
  • All items, whether they are reserves or not, that are going to another branch have to be put in-transit. This is a priority.
  • When someone calls or walks up to the desk and wants a reserve placed on a book it needs to be done at that time. Also, if a patron calls and wants a book we have placed on reserve, we need to go to the shelf to make sure it is there before the reserve is placed. To go along with this, anytime you are searching for material that the OPAC says we have on our shelf and it cannot be found, mark it as lost. When the book is eventually found, either by it being checked out or inventoried, and scanned it will be marked as found.

Next Week

Just to remind everyone, Virginia and myself will be in meetings everyday all week long. We will only be here in the meeting room on Monday and Seymour the rest of the week. Please remember on Monday that only emergencies are to take precedence over the meeting. All other inquiries can wait until the meeting is over. You can also email any questions to either one of our inboxes (we will have our computers with us the whole time). You guys are doing great work and we know you can handle it on your own. Thanks again!
